Lone Star Tick Bites

Lone Star tick bites, which are now spreading to the midwest and northeast have a signficant risk of transmission of the following diseases as of late 2019.

  1. tularemia
  2. Ehrlichiosis
  3. Heartland virus
  4. southern tick associated rash illness
  5. alpha-gal syndrome
  6. Bourbon virus

The clinical syndrome of ehrlichiosis caused by lone star ticks can be caused by Ehrlichia chaffeensis, E. ewingii, and Panaola Mountain virus.
